Today we welcome Kelly Exeter to our Celebration of Girls. Kelly is a designer, blogger and busy mum of her young son. In her current blog, “A Life Less Frantic”, Kelly shares her experiences and tips on slowing down, being more organised and living a beautiful, happy life. She occasionally indulges her love of pretty things too!
Today, Kelly has taken up the Story Starter Challenge using Girl Talk (Junior) Story Starters as her starting point. We hope these favourite Pretty Things from her childhood will bring back some memories of your own special “pretty things”.

You may know that Leaf has these wonderful Girl Talk Story Starter cards and today I have randomly selected two of them to base my post on. The two cards I chose were when I was little and pretty things … so here we go!
When I was little I was NOT a girly girl. In fact I was quite the tomboy who preferred playing in the dirt to playing with Barbies and at lunchtimes I played cricket on the oval with the boys.
While I may not have loved dolls and tutus, I DID however love pretty things and obviously had a creative side even as a youngster because my favourite ‘toys’ were my spirograph and my flower press.
Do you remember the spirograph? Those wonderful pieces of plastic circles with teeth that combined with a pen to produce an infinite array of glorious repeating patterns.
As for the flower press – while I had grand plans for all the flowers I flattened and dried (intricate varnished wall art!) I am not sure I ever made anything that useful with them. But a measure of just how much I loved them was the fact that my (horrid) little brothers took great delight in kidnapping it on a frequent basis and holding it for ransom.
So now what about you? What was your favourite pretty thing when you were a girl? I won’t hold it against you if it was Ballet Barbie
