The munchkin had a great birthday. Typical of kids his age (just turned 5), finding gifts that are going to challenge and excite him is becoming more difficult – especially when he already has a huge amount of toys (Lego in particular) and we have a limited amount of space.
I first came across makedo (in person anyway, I had read a little about it) at the Toy Fair earlier this year. Surrounded by the coolest robots, furniture, animals and vehicles, all made out of “rubbish”, I knew it would be just up the munchkin’s alley. It might also save me a small mountain of sticky tape.
makedo is one of those incredibly simple ideas that we all wish we’d had first – some little removable plastic clips, with backings, a few hinges and a great little tool for cutting and putting in holes – that’s all! (I think some of the themed sets have stickers too.) The makedo website has a fantastic gallery of projects to get your creative juices flowing, and you can even upload pictures of your own inventions.
Looking forward to some serious creating with the munchkin with this one. Will have to start a Creation Journal though (more on this soon). If we can’t fit any more Lego creations in our house, we certainly won’t fit life size robots for long!
I bought our makedo set at EcoToys in Hawthorn East, but I have seen it around in a number of good toy stores, both online and on the ground.
Please note: This is not a sponsored post. I just think makedo is awesome, and from first impressions, the munchkin does too.
