For someone who loves stationery and papery goodness as much I do, I’ve realised I haven’t talked about them very much so far.
Time to fix that!
The big trade fairs (Life Instyle, Home and Giving, Reed Gift Fair) were held in Melbourne over the past couple of weeks. We have been busy working on an exciting new project (details to be revealed soon), so there wasn’t a Leaf stand this time. Instead I took the opportunity to go along as a visitor and check out the latest in paper communications and stationery trends.
Here are some of my favourite finds.
1. Little Branch
This beautiful collection of cards, prints and wrapping papers always makes me smile. It has almost a magical feel, with swirling watercolour graphics, that layer and dance across the page. Created by the very talented Anna Johnson and Maree Oaten (who is also one of the masterminds behind Paper Runway magazine).
2. Swapstar
Are swapcards back in vogue? We certainly hope so! I loved my collection when I was a girl (although I wish I hadn’t accidentally left my album behind when we moved house). These are real cuties. If, like me, you loved swapcards as a kid, also check out the super retro ones by Daisy Lane. They’ll take you back…
3. East of India
We loved all of the East of India range – the cute little stationery boxes, the natural, raw versions of popular board games, the pretty ribbons and gift tags, the stickers and most of all, the paper chains!
4. lalaland
These cards are works of art – literally. lalaland sources its artwork from leading Australian and international artists and illustrators. The results are absolutely divine! I also love their raw cardboard picture frames. There really is nothing quite like black illustrations on kraft, is there?
5. T-Mod
I’m thinking the hubby’s love for all things Steampunk has been rubbing off on me. These clever Scratchie cards are so old-worldly – I just adore them! The cards come with a sweet little charm to help you do the scratching, revealing a surprise message or image underneath.
6. Yellow Owl Workshop
These gorgeous stamp sets tick all the boxes for me… great design, gorgeous packaging, eco-friendly (they’re made with reclaimed wood and natural rubber) and offering endless opportunities for creative play. They come in boxed sets with 5 stamps or in calico bags with 2 or 3 stamps. Not just for kids, I’m guessing!
7. Poppies for Grace
This butterfly notepad is possibly the happiest stationery item one could ever wish for. I’m looking forward to adorning my new inspiration board with a flight of these little guys. They’re sure to add some cheer, especially when I’m having one of “those” days. Poppies for Grace also create some of the prettiest invitations and notelets around.
I’m sure these lovely goodies will be available at paper boutiques and other sellers of pretty paper things very soon.
