Touch Training

Touch Training

Hubby has finally decided to play Touch again.

For those of you not familiar with Touch, it’s like rugby for old folks – i.e. no tackling!

We both discovered the game when we first moved to Adelaide, and played pretty enthusiastically for about six years. He was good at it, I less so, but our club was great fun and we met heaps of fantastic people. We even played in the World Masters Games (and got hammered!)

The club we joined was very family oriented, full of people who had joined as young couples, and then continued on post-kids. Of course, there were others, who like us, hadn’t gotten there yet… But during the Summer season, there were always little tackers around, running wild in the stands or around on the grass – enjoying the freedom of wide open spaces and minimal supervision.

Last night (because I’m a little late today – something about going out last night… which is another story), one of those little tackers was the Munchkin. He did exactly the same things I remember those other kids doing. Swinging off the bars that marked the field, trying to kick a spare ball around, slowly introducing himself to the other kids there, and then running around with them like he’d known them all his life.

It’s comforting to know that kids, given the chance to run wild, don’t change.

Day 11′s post of My Happy Place 30-Day Challenge is a little late, but better late than never… This wonderful initiative is being run by the awesome Nathalie from Easy Peasy Kids. Help us spread a little more happiness by posting about the special little things in life that bring us joy. You can view all my My Happy Place posts here.
